White House defends Trump’s tariffs amid plunging stock markets

The White House is defending President Donald Trump’s tariffs against the country’s top trading partners after the stock market experienced its worst day in 2025 with a sell off that left the Dow down nearly 900 points. Investors could face another difficult day with more tariffs scheduled to go into effect on Wednesday and a government shutdown looming and concerns of a recession growing.
